ABOUT THE HONEY BEE GROUP

Our story, mission, vision, and values

Our beekeeping journey spans generations, rooted in the legacy of our late father and grandfather. Today the two sons, (Nico and Hannes Grobler) and grandson (Darian Grobler) are dedicated to preserving this rich tradition while embracing a commitment to ethical and sustainable beekeeping and bee removal practices.

Our farm in the Cullinan district, east of Pretoria, is a working bee farm where family values are the core of our operations. We view ourselves not just as beekeepers but as custodians of a tradition that had been handed down and also as guardians of these wonderfull creatures we get to work with. We recognise that honey bees are not merely buzzing insects or indispensable pollinators essential to the delicate balance of our ecosystem; they are an unmistakable testimony of Creation.

As advocates for environmental stewardship, we believe that informed individuals make empowered choices.

Through various campaigns and educational initiatives we aim to empower the public and children with regard to the beauty and importance of these remarkable creatures. After all, our children are the future of beekeeping.

Our Mission:

Education stands as the cornerstone of our mission.

Through awareness and educational initiatives we aim to elevate public perception regarding the profound value and importance of honey bees.

Our Vision:

Our vision is clear and unwavering – ethical and sustainable beekeeping.

Our Values:

We hold ourselves to the highest standards, ensuring the wellbeing of honey bees and the purity of our products.

From raw honey to various other hive-related offerings, every product reflect our commitment to quality and sustainability.

Feel free to contact us, make an appointment and visit The Bee Farm where we present Beekeeping Training, Bee Removal Training and Young Beekeepers information days where kids are dressed in bee-suits and training sessions presented.

Marketing Maverick turned Bee Enthusiast

I’m Nico, a man who traded the hustle and bustle of the marketing world and boardrooms for the calm hum of the bees and the sweet smell of a hive. Almost eight years ago, I took a leap of faith, transitioning from crafting campaigns to tending hives and from building brands to building brood-combs into hives, relocating wild “problem” bee colonies.

As the proud founding member of The Honey Bee Group I have used a former skill-set to bring the entire value-chain of the beekeeping industry together.

What started as a hobby turned into a full-blown passion. The allure of these wonderful little creatures and their marvelous work in nature and in our lives captured my heart. Now I’m not just building brands – I’m cultivating hives, harvesting the liquid gold (honey) while sharing all of this with new beekeepers in training.

Together with the rest of my family we’ve embarked on a mission to share the sweetness and wonders of nature with the world. From sustainably harvested raw honey and ethical bee removal and relocation to an array of eco-friendly hive-related products, we are creating a buzz that goes beyond the marketing boardroom.

Bee Removal Specialist and Drone Pilot to be…

Hey, my name is Darian, a 17-year-old bee enthusiast deeply entrenched in the world of The African honey bee. My journey into the world of beekeeping commenced at the tender age of 8, working alongside my dad, Nico Grobler and my uncle, Hannes Grobler, often listening to the stories told about my late grandfather’s beekeeping endevours. I not only inherited the family passion for beekeeping but actively participated, transforming fasination into hands-on experience.

Over and above school-work I’m often helping to oversee the day-to day management around the farm and needless to say spend time flying my drone around the farm and our other apiaries.

In March of 2022 I also pursued and obtained an IWH (Institute for Working at Heights) qualification as a fall arrest technician (Level 2). Now equipped to work safely at heights and with over 800 wild colony removals under my belt, I can ensure the successful removal of bees from difficult places, combining my love for bees with a commitment to safety.

Precious Chakwira
Beekeeper, Honey-House & hive guru.

I’m Precious, a passionate bee enthusiast hailing from Malawi. Two years ago I joined the dynamic team at The Honey Bee group and what started as an interest has blossomed into a fulfilling journey. Eager to learn and immerse myself into beekeeping I attended a Beekeeping Course presented by our resident beekeeper.

From day one, I dedicated countless hours to maintenance tasks and hands-on beekeeping activities, absorbing knowledge like a sponge. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to the well-being of our buzzing friends, I quickly became proficient in maintenance tasks, ensuring the hives are in optimal condition and that the honey-house is ship-shape.

Today I’m proud to be a full-fledged an indispensable member of the team.

Beekeeping Maestro and Bee Removal Specialist.

Hello, I’m Hannes Grobler – a seasoned beekeeper and former manufacturing jeweler who traded the glint of gems for the golden hues of honey, from crafting jewellery to grafting larvae and rearing honey bee queens.

I began my beekeeping journey as a hobby back in 1993, inspired by my late dad’s beekeeping endevours and what started as a hobby, evolved into a lifelong fascination. In 2015 I decided to bid farewell to a successful career as a manufacturing jeweler to fully immerse myself into the captivating world of beekeeping. I have a passion for bees as well as people and developed and present various training courses.

Co-opted by my brother Nico Grobler and The Honey Bee Group, I also play a vital role in training initiatives as well as handling specialised bee removals when needed. Together Nico and myself still do cellphone-tower and other challenging removals where it is required to work as a team.
